Great Fit With My New Glasses!

Virginia's efforts to get me a surgery date were relentless, & her persistance ultimately resulted in two successful cateract procedures.

To the Bedford Eye Care Team,

I remember being 16 years old and walking into the Bedford Eye Care Centre. My senses at the time didn’t pick up specifics… just general faces, people’s voices and another optometrist. After a few normal appointments (and years) I switched over to Dr. Avila Cox. I was taken aback by her subtle quiet manner that made me feel comfortable as a patient. Without a lecture like a dentist, she quietly but subtly reminded me of proper eye care and how it was important for my well being. Perhaps a bizarre thing to say but I’ve been wearing glasses my whole life and she by far was the first people to ever make me feel proud to wear them!

The years go by, life happens and at 25 years of age I make the decision to travel across Canada. It was a breathtaking adventure with experiences and joys that every Canadian would be proud of. Through this journey I discovered the capital city of Ottawa. Beautiful, clean, economically sound and so much more to offer, I made the decision to be move there.

I have spent the last 5 years of my life in Ottawa. I have made a few trips back to Bedford but always for occasions like Christmas or a family graduation. In the recent months I had noticed that there was a change in my eye sight. The thought of hunting down another optometrist gave me a sick feeling. I’m not a big fan of any type of doctor, dentist or optometrist. I put it off for months. A recent trip back to Bedford due to a family emergency gave me a one day window. I arrived in to town on Tuesday, had to fly elsewhere for Wed and Thursday and was headed back to Ottawa Saturday. I had Friday free that was it. When I arrived on Tuesday I decided to pick up the phone. Weirdly enough I still knew the number. I called and simply asked “Hi, I have a weird question… I moved to Ottawa 5 years ago and I am wondering if there was any way I could get an appointment on Friday.” The lady that answered the phone pleasantly took my name and confirmed that I was with Dr. Cox and that it was no problem to get an appointment Friday morning.

June 17th, 2011 - I am 30 years old; I opened the door to the Bedford Eye Care Centre. I pleasantly smiled and recognized the face smiling back at me. Forgive me for not remembering her name - but I know her face, and she would know who she is - greeting the customers. I looked over in the middle chair (behind the counter) and also recognized the face sitting there. I made a comment to the ladies that it was funny that I hadn’t been there in probably 6 years or more but the faces hadn’t changed. That said something good about where they worked and the dedication they had. After some paperwork and a few more smiles it was my ticket in. Two fabulous ladies helped me through 2 of the main exams. Again pardon me for not remembering your names; I know you both took the time to introduce yourselves to me. Both of you ladies made my tests relaxing and almost pleasurable. I enjoyed being there and believe you me you both made an impact on me. Then in walks Dr. Cox. Once again I really had a good time at my appointment. Just an extremely comfortable atmosphere that relaxed me and made my appointment enjoyable. Understanding my eyes and what I need to do to protect them are again the focus of my time with Dr. Cox and let me tell you I made that first leap for the first time by purchasing myself a pair of prescription sunglasses….My whole life I thought that buying glasses from the optometrist was so overpriced. I didn’t see any value and by passed that section every time before. This time I even had a solid excuse… I didn’t live here. I had a plane to catch in the morning. Dr. Cox has said it was possible for sunglasses to be mailed to me. My scapegoat is now gone.

Enter Judy.

Judy I don’t know how much time we spent together, maybe an hour - I think it was definitely around 30 to 45 minutes - either way it didn’t matter. My time with you was awesome. Through your own experience and stories of your husband smile which I know you haven’t told him you tell, it really encouraged me to buy a pair from someone that spoke from experience and satisfaction. The option to have my glasses mailed to me was suitable. Through trial and tribulation Judy nailed a nice set of Nike sunglasses for me. She walked me through picking out the frames, deciding on tint and polarization - I was shocked that she was willing to spend that much time with a client. After phone calls to the Alberta lab over what could be done I was sold on the Nike sunglasses. I declined on the polarization due to cost but was super excited about owning my first pair of prescription sunglasses. Judy then takes me over to the counter. She again confirms my order and reminds me it will be a few weeks. After ringing through my appointment and my glasses I left the Bedford Eye Care almost speechless. I’m back in Ottawa now and I haven’t stopped talking about the customer service I got from your wonderful team. The decision to keep my eye doctor in a different province is simple. The team is a cut above the rest.

Since departing Bedford I had received a message from Judy indicating that after I had left, the Alberta lab informed her in order to do my glasses they had to polarize them, but she wasn’t going to charge me. I couldn’t believe the good news. I appreciate the very kind gesture as I am aware the fundamentals of business and understand giving items away for free does not keep you in business. It was an excellent customer service decision and just made me very happy and even more excited. The next business day I received my sunglasses in the mail and let me tell you I am beyond happy. I don’t squint anymore while I’m riding my bike in the sun. Weekends at the cottage and my day at the water park have been experiences that are almost new again as for the first time I can see at the same time as wearing proper sunglasses.
Since the day I have gotten these sunglasses I have been ecstatic about them. I love my bike ride that much more and even a simple beer in the back yard on in the summer is now different. I can’t say thank you enough. Every penny I spent at the Bedford Eye Care Centre Team was a proud penny spent. Thank you to the whole team for your outstanding customer service, your infinite wisdom, knowledge and experiences. I honestly and truly am shocked by the level of service you have provided on all levels. The whole team, from answering the phones, greeting at the door, testing, selling glasses - WOW! I’m not sure what your secret is but I know the rest of the customer service world would use it. My only regret… Not buying my regular every day glasses there.

5 Stars : Great Friendly Service

Our family have been a client of Bedford Eye Care Centre for over 20 years. When we moved to Nova Scotia I asked a co-worker where he had his eye vision needs checked. He gave me Dr. Mandelman's address and I was very impressed with the service she provided. Her business has expanded many times since then but the company continue to provide "first class" service and ALL of her staff are very friendly and helpful. If you any problems, they are willing to try and solve that problem. They have the latest technology available and I would recommend this company.

The excellent customer service consistently displayed by your employee Theresa Myra, is the reason for composing this letter!!

While many customers will note when they experience poor customer service, it is equally important to note when exceptional customer service is experienced. This certainly is the case with Theresa. Her sunny disposition, desire to be helpful and dazzling smile, make the experience at your centre most delightful!! I consider Theresa a most valuable member of your staff and business. I only wish many more people in all sectors of business would adopt her approach and attitude.

The service is fantastic from the moment you walk in the door

I have recently purchased glasses and have taken my sunglasses to have them tinted and a prescription change. I have dealt with many glasses companies and optometrists... I must say on a customer point of view, the service is fantastic from the moment you walk in the door you have a friendly, smiling face who welcomes you, then from the optometrist and the ones who fit you. I would recommend this place to anyone. They are the best. A job well done.

CRT the option this long-time glasses wearer was waiting for

One and a half months into the CRT program and I get up every morning and laugh. My amusement does not stem from perfect vision, but rather that I am still reaching and searching for my old glasses that have been faithfully by my bedside every day for the last 32 years.

Glasses and my face have been inseparable most of my life. I've never been able to wear contacts for more than about 4 hours before dry eyes and discomfort drive me to take them out. The concept of laser surgery, although highly successful I know, still bothers me on some non-logical level. Who knows, I may still go for laser some day, but in the mean time I have been presented with an excellent alternative called CRT, which leave all options open.

I started CRT on April 19,2005 by putting these gritty feeling contacts in my eyes at night. I still had fun with friends and even strangers explaining this new concept. "I thought you couldn't wear contacts at night", they say. The first night I didn't sleep very well, my eyes knew there was something different and my brain kept watch in case the contacts suddenly jumped out and ran away. However, I quickly adapted and really did not notice the contacts much after that initial night.

Three days later I laughed as I drove my car to work for the first time in my life without glasses or contacts. My initial thought was, I am going to have to invest in some sunglasses now; my clip-ons are useless. Or what happens if the police stop me and they question me about the requirement to use "corrective lenses". How would I explain and would they believe me. I love irrational thoughts.

Once week into therapy, I went most of the day without glasses. Then came another first. Lying down on the couch or bed to watch TV at night and feeling a smooth, soft pillow rather than glasses digging in the side of my nose an face. That has always been a huge irritant that I'm sure everyone who wears glasses can relate to.

Two weeks in, and I can see 20/20 most of the day, and another first, I went golfing for the first time in my life without glasses. No, my game didn't improve instantly, but what a great fee feeling. I can hardly wait until I play in the rain or light mist, and will not have to constantly clear my glasses.

May 3, was it conscience or destiny? I won a Q104 radio contest to have a new, up and coming rock group play an acoustical set in my back yard. Fantastic group with a very bright and clear future! The name of the group: The Waking Eyes.

Obviously, I recommend CRT as an excellent alternative to glasses or laser surgery to awaken your eyes, and free you from the bondage of glasses.

From a grateful patient

We want to thank you for seeing our friend who was visiting from Ontario when she experienced severe pain and loss of vision in her left eye. We were very concerned because of her age (79) and because she had previously had a stroke, heart attack and cataract surgery in both eyes. We also thank you for getting her into the Eye Clinic at the VG Hospital the same day. Because of your attention, she received excellent care and was able to complete her visit with us.

The specialists at the clinic saw her on three separate occasions and although they were able to lower the pressure in her eye, they were unable to determine the cause of the hemorrhage because of the amount of blood remaining in the eye. It will be several weeks before the eye is clear enough so that her doctors in Ontario will be able to determine and treat the cause.

Thank you once again for fitting her into your busy schedule.

An active 12-year-old happy to no longer worry about breaking his glasses playing sports

Paragon CRT lenses are really cool because they change your eyesight really fast. One day you are wearing glasses and the next day you can see fine without glasses; and only because you put the Paragon CRT lenses in the night before. Now, I don't have to worry about doing sports and breaking my glasses anymore. It is not hard to put them in at night, since I know how to do it. After a couple of weeks, it gets really easy. Anyway, they are really cool!!

A miracle appointment for laser vision correction

I would like to thank Dr. Mandelman for recommending TLC Laser Clinic to have my laser surgery done. Your explanation of the procedure and what the results could be led me to make the Miracle appointment. The staff at the TLC Laser Clinic were unbelievable. Both my wife and I could not get over how professional and friendly they all were. They explained everything I needed to know to the 10th degree. I could not have been more satisfied. Every question I asked was explained to me in layman's terms. Great! The results were fantastic. I have perfect vision in my right eye and almost 20/20 in my left, which was the one you used to call my cockeyed eye. I have gone from tri-focals to no glasses (except reading) and it's just unbelievable.

I was so excited by my excellent results that I am sure I have recommended TLC to at least 10 people already. I can only say, The doctors are great, The complete staff are great, The results are great, Painless, Simple, Wonderful!

Little things can make your day a lot more pleasant

I just wanted to drop you a quick note regarding the excellent customer service I receive from Tara over the last two weeks.

As you know I was in for my appointment and really didn't need to get my prescription updated (We both know next trip in will be the new bifocals).

My main optical problem since last summer was the fact that my clip-ons were cracked and unusable. When they were damaged, I have been using regular sun glasses when driving (which was not a great idea ) until this week.

I was very impressed with the professional service and "can do" attitude from Tara when I asked if my clip-ons could be fixed. Within a few days I received a call tell me that my problem had been solved at a fraction of the cost and I am now able to drive much better (my wife will be the judge of that).

We all know that purchasing new eye glasses can be expensive and thanks to your professional staff, our family will be happy to continue to purchase our eye glasses from your staff and will also recommend your excellent facility to our friends.

All the best and please thank Tara for her excellent customer service in fixing my little problem. Sometimes it's the little things that can make your day a lot more pleasant.

What joy! What bliss!

Thanks so much TLC and BEDFORD EYECARE CENTRE for life without glasses!

I still wake up and try to remember where my glasses are only to discover that I don't need them anymore. I'm constantly pushing invisible glasses up my nose and poking myself in the eye instead. This is a habit I wasn't even aware I had until my glasses disappeared.

Walking in the rain is no longer torture. I don't have to look through rain-soaked lenses anymore. I can swim and put my head under water. There is no more fogging up when I walk into a warm building from the cold. I can wear eye makeup and people will actually notice. I can shave my legs in the shower since I can actually see my legs now.

What joy! What bliss! Thanks for revealing my baby blues to the world again TLC! And.. Thanks to my eye doctor for taking such good care of my eyes and sending me to the very best for laser surgery.
